In December 2004, the BHSC submitted an application for assistance under the Family Health Team guidelines. Based on the size of the Brighton community and the under-serviced designation the Family Health Team Model is for 5 full-time family Physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 1 registered nurse, 1 physiotherapist, 1 social worker/mental health professional and a part-time dietitian.

In April 2005, at a special televised event, the Premier of Ontario, the Minister of Health and Long Term Care and the local MPP announced the approval for a Family Health Team at the BHSC. After many months of completing Ministry Guidelines and the creation of a non-profit board of directors the Brighton Family Health team is up and functioning. Staff includes three family doctors, three receptionists, two R.N.’s, an administrator, .5 social worker and  .25 dietician. In September there will be link to the Brighton Family Health Team web site.

Each physician has a fully equipped office, two fully equipped examination rooms, a reception area, a common waiting area and access to a minor treatment room. Computer record systems, photocopy and fax equipment will be supplied to each physician. Physicians will be charged rent according to the number of patients on their roster. Exact details can be obtained by contacting any of the directors listed below. All accounting procedures will be donated for the first year.

A recruiting team visited all five medical schools in September providing handouts on the BHSC and the Brighton community. Many contacts were made with students in their third and four years.
